By 2063, old industrial Europe has finally fully entered the megacorporate era. The giant Saeder-Krupp may be ahead, but as the European business scene has multiple corporate interests, there are more than a few other noteworthy megacorporations.
AG Chemie Europa
AG Chemie Europa is a consortium. It acts as a central management and investment joint venture for the shareholding chemical companies. It operates chemicals factories, major genetic research labs, oil drilling in the North Sea, medical services in Germany, and controls most other corporate activities in Frankfürt. The only corporations larger in the chemicals industry are Saeder-Krupp and Zeta-Impchem, who are so due to owning several of the consortium members. With the acquisition of Mueller-Schlüter Infotech, AG Chemie Europa went outside its traditional domain to enter the computer sector.
Erika
The Scandinavian telecom giant is a discreet corporate presence, although its products are in the hands of many consumers worldwide. They favor research and development, especially in their Scandinavian home turf. For the Wireless Matrix Initiative, they allied themselves with Transys Neuronet, a corp with a similar policy. The WMI is a major blow to Lofwyr's interests, credit for which some lay at the claws of Transys's Celedyr.
Esprit Industries
Esprit, an armaments firm, specializes in custom armors, electronic warfare and other military advanced technologies. Their main concern is to have governments and corporations signing military contracts with them. Esprit even owns companies to exploit the natural resources those governments have to protect. That was the highest selling point with the French Ministry of Defense. The French and Esprit intelligence services are completely intertwined and operate on every level to strengthen Esprit influence. With Saeder-Krupp on the board, Lofwyr has been able to establish links with his own intelligence services.
ESUS
ESUS's prime business is transportation. ESUS offers vehicles ranging from the G-Concorde suborbital and urban bus, to cargo ships and delivery trucks. Its most distinctive vehicle is the TGV, the high-speed train in service in Western Europe and maybe soon in India and Russia. The corporation maintains massive extraterritorial hubs where passengers and shipments jump from one form of transportation to another under an omnipresent security.
Frankfurter Bankverein
The Frankfurt Bank Association (FBA) has for years been a counterbalance to Saeder-Krupp influence in Germany, supporting corporations such as IFMU and Ruhrmetall. That opposition was done at the behest of its head, the Great Dragon Nachtmeister. Since Lofwyr put an end to this rivalry in the most direct and brutal way, the FBA is without its raison-d'être. Monika Stueler-Waffenschmidt has appeared as the dragon's heir, but many doubt that a traditionalist like Nachtmeister would follow Dunkelzahn's lead and pull strings from beyond the graves.
Hildebrandt-Kleinfort-Bernal
HKB is the dominant presence on the London stock exchange. It is also a major shareholder in industrial corporations like Regulus and Transys. After the Great Dragon Celedyr seized control of Transys Neuronet, the megacorp targeted HKB's other interests to weaken them even more. As the Bernal dynasty remains unchallenged for control of HKB, Anthony Hildebrandt blames them for the present situation as well.
Lusiada
Lusiada literally sustains Portugal, the megacorporation and the country acting co-dependently although Lusiada operates worldwide; the Portuguese Prime Minister is also the Chairman of the Board. The real power behind the figurative throne, however, is in the hands of the four shareholding families: the Balsemão, the Espírito Santos, the Castro Marin and the Champalimaud families. Lusiada is a diversified corp, but only its petrochem and shipping branches are particularly noteworthy through their partnerships with Saeder-Krupp and Wuxing, respectively.
Maersk Incorporated Assets
Maersk is a maritime company from Copenhagen that has amalgamated diversified interests in communications, drilling and medicine throughout the years. Its core business is shipping and shipbuilding, especially since the merger of the shipbuilding branch with Kvaerner of Norway, which made them a world leader. Proteus AG retained its alliance with Kvaerner after the merger, but relations have worsened anew between it and Maersk.
Meridional Agronomics
Meridional is one of the few major food producers still making a sizeable business in natural food. It has invested large sums as well, however, in chemical and genetic applications. Although it sells food worldwide, Europe remains its largest market. The corporation has quite a few diverse branches in the Mediterranean, as well as ties with Northern African criminal activities.
Proteus AG
Proteus has a well-deserved reputation as a mystery corp. Almost all of its activities are focused on long term research, with few to no foreseeable market shares. Their maritime arcologies, the arkoblocks, and their new space station are giant laboratories to prepare for human expansion in extreme environments. Proteus does lease work space on its space station and sell submarines as well as new biotechnologies, but it remains impossible to assess the total amount of research the corporation has performed.
Regulus Joint Industries
Regulus is the recent merger of two old corps, namely British Industrial PLC and Royal Dutch Joint Enterprises. These two economical behemoths survived through the years thanks to their size, not their (non-existent) versatility. For now, they have reduced their focus on construction, mining, energy and other heavy industry to strengthen their market shares in basic consumer goods. A lot of corporations, especially Saeder-Krupp, are likely to use the period of reorganization after the merger to their advantage.
Renault-Fiat
In spite of the name, Renault-Fiat's primary interests are in chemistry through their Michelin subsidiary and aeronautics through Agusta-Cierva. In comparison, the historical automotive branch is in an obvious downslide. It might be more accurate to call it the Agnelli-Elkann Corporation, considering this branch of the Italian family established and built the megacorporation in France. The head offices may be in Paris, but the hotspot is in the Agnelli villa near Turin.
Saeder-Krupp
Saeder-Krupp is one of the largest corporations in the world. It's ranked as a top-heavy industrial company, but its holdings are spread in almost every domain. S-K cannot be separated from its boss and unique shareholder, the Great Dragon Lofwyr; they are synonymous, and Europe is where the dragon's power is the most tangible. His intangible power is far greater, as he maintains extensive intelligence networks to ferret out every move in every aspect of Europe.
Sol Media
This media and communications group founded in Barcelona has been on the rise for a decade. Sol business ranges from virtual Matrix entertainment to tourist resorts worldwide. Before conquering its current part of the European media scene, it established a strong base in Latin America, including Aztlan (under the vigilant eyes of the government). In Europe, its supporters are a lot less official as they are rumored to include Italian and Spanish mobs.
Transys Neuronet
Transys Neuronet was the first company to produce functional cybernetic limbs, and is has grown in the cybernetic computers and implants markets. Transys is a sprawl of R&D laboratories in California, Shanghai and Scandinavia, with its heart in the Edinburgh area and Caerleon. It's Caerleon that gets the spotlight, as its host the Great Dragon Celedyr seized the control of the corporation and left HKB and Z-IC as minority shareholders so far.
Zeta-ImpChem
Z-IC is a ruthless company. That's how it survived a decades-long struggle over the chemical industry with none other than Saeder-Krupp. As it controls several member companies of the AG Chemie Europa consortium, Zeta-ImpChem pushed it into a more aggressive research and experimentation policy in the field of genetics. Z-IC dabbles in the domains of chemistry, food products, electronic components and medicine. Its industrial bases in Switzerland and UK are also housed with the financial branches to support the corporation.
